Day 3 Dawson Creek

Day 3 - Dawson Creek

Today was sightseeing in Dawson Creek. A “must do and see” is Mile Marker Zero, the beginning of the Alcan Highway.

We then headed off to the Dawson Creek Art Gallery which is housed in a relocated grain elevator.

The gallery featured exhibits from local artists, as well as historical photos of the Army Corps of Engineers building the Alcan Highway.

It even featured photos of African-American soldiers and workers showing their contribution to the construction of the highway.

Our next stop was the Walter Wright Pioneer Village that featured a reconstructed village that represented pioneer days from 1912 – 1945.

Various buildings in the village were moved from the town and reassembled to build the exhibit.

We were treated to a short video and entertaining lecture by a former fire chief of Dawson Creek who was overflowing with a wealth of information. He personally had restored two of the city’s fire engines and other fire-fighting equipment in the exhibit.

On our return trip from Alaska, we will again spend a night in Dawson Creek and look forward to more exploration and discovery.

  1. Is it just me, or does it seem like these four are really enjoying retirement. It does make me a tad bit envious that I'm not there ;).

I thank you all for sharing your adventures with us (especially while I'm enjoying a typical Texas summer).

    Love Sister
