We watched a PBS video "Making the Alaskan Highway" It will be one video that I will add to our collection as part of African American History. It's was amazing. Just as we didn't hear about the African American troops fighting in all our wars, neither have we heard how crucial we were in building the highway between Dawson Creek BC to Fairbanks, AK.
Meanwhile, John and June washed RVs and car.
Anna’s Musings
On the way to Anchorage our reservations for the night was
in Palmer, AK at the Big Bear RV Park. Along the way we caught sight of several
moose but were only able to get a picture on one standing in the marsh grazing.
Frank and I were no able to stop in time to take a picture but fortunately John
and Conne stopped and got many pictures.
We saw many more snowcapped mountains and several glaciers,
glacier lakes, and glacier rivers flowing with ice. The sun shining on the
crystal snow and ice made a spectacular picture.
The weather was beautiful and the highway was paved except
for a few spots where minor construction was still being done. There were a few
bumps and whoop-t-doos but nothing like previous days, which made for a very
pleasant ride.
Tomorrow we head for Sterling, AK where we will visit a few
days with friends who have a cabin on an island in the Kenai River. We hope to
do more sightseeing and if lucky enough, we will also do some salmon fishing.
