Counting the Days Before Leaving

Time is getting closer and I finally have a date of departure, June 14.  There is always a lot to do when going on a road trip whether near or far.  Planning our trip to Alaska started more than a year ago and I'm very glad.  Because we are taking a couple of guns, we needed to fill out an application and send it to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).  To ensure they received it, I sent it Certified which took two weeks.  Once you receive clearance to carry your weapon in your vehicle, you can not enter Canada until the date given on your approved application that they will email or fax to you.  There are other restrictions in regards to weapons, so make sure you get the right information before you go.

Some other things to consider are:  get proof of insurances that include health and vehicle (your insurance company will provide an identification card for your vehicle), an up-to-date passport and/or Enhanced Driving License if applicable. If you take prescription medicines, talk with your doctor and pharmacist to have enough to carry you through and beyond your trip.  Contact your HMO for any information if you were to get sick while traveling.

Contact your block watch program if you have one.  Contact the postal service for a vacation stop mail.  Place timers in several rooms to turn lights on and off at different times.  Inform at least one neighbor that you trust and leave a set of keys in case of fire.  If you have bills that you pay on a monthly basis, double to triple up on payment or pay through automatic payment plan.  John and I take our check books and envelopes with dates when bills are due written in pencil so we know when to mail them and we make copies of our last bill to include in our envelopes as a reference to the company.  It may not be the same amount each month, but close enough.  If you receive the daily paper you can have a delay service.

Well, so far, I haven't placed any more stuff in the RV since coming back from Arizona, which is a good thing.  I do have a few, yes a few things stacked on a chair that will go when we are walking out the door.  That's it for now.
